Wikipedia’s search Jan 7

Wikepedia

Wikipedia’s search application, Wiki Search, will be launched on January 7, 2008. Like the popular online encyclopedia. Wikia Search will also be an open source and community enterprise.

Apart from the usual search algorithm and Web crawler, Wikia Search will also use the help of technology enthusiasts of its wide spread community to rank and filter sites. Wikipedia founders believe this will make the search more transparent and human.

Popular search engines such as Google and Yahoo work solely on algorithms which sometimes throw up irrelevant search results. Wikia Search will not come fully armed to take on established players but will evolve over time its Wikipedia did.

American beauty – Really beauty

I had never really heard anything specific about American Beauty besides that it was an instant classic and masterpiece. I was surprised at how real this story was and how it was told in such a witty way. The script is just amazing and it has so many memorable lines. Some parts of the film were funny but mostly it just makes you think closer about life in general. This film shows suburban life for how imperfect it can actually be. It shows how many women are materialistic and how many men go through a mid life crisis, and how many teenagers are angry, insecure, and confused. No matter how old you are or what gender, you can relate to the story because the film shows a point of view from each character who are all different ages. Kevin Spacey was amazing in his role as the lead, as was Annette Bening as the wife, and so was Thora Birch and Wes Bentley as the two teenagers in love. Bentley’s character is actually my favorite and also Birch kind of reminds me of Amber Tamblyn who is freaking amazing so that’s definitely a good thing. Everything falls in to place in this one and by the end you get the message that you can find beauty in anything if you look close enough.

Die hard – Awesome

One of the best action thrillers ever made, Die Hard still rocks like a thunderstorm nearly twenty years after it was first released; often copied and arguably never, ever equalled, this film introduced the set-up of the lone cop/soldier/tough guy against a team of terrorists who have taken over a secured area. We’d get airports, airplanes, ships, buses, trains and many more, all in inferior films, but in Die Hard the action is set in a skyscraper, and director John McTiernan handles the claustrophobic tension with breathtaking skill. Bruce Willis also introduced the action hero as tough but eminently, realistically woundable; by the end he’s a bloody, torn, shot and beaten mess. Obviously he survives near-impossible odds, be it falling through lift shafts, jumping off of exploding roofs and such and such, but he’s no invincible Schwarzenegger type, and that’s what makes him more likable and it’s what gives the film real tension. Also, in Alan Rickman, we have the very best example of the refined European master criminal who would become a stereotype very quickly; funny, dangerous, clever and sophisticated, he’s a villain you love to hate. The script is a dazzler, the action is brutal, effective and extremely exciting and the final half hour in particular cranks up the adrenaline to maximum effect. A classic.

IBM offers search for email data

IBM has launched a personal email search application that will quickly find essential data such as phone numbers and addresses. Though “IBM OmniFind Personal Email Search” carries a ponderous name, it is quite smart.

IOPES is powered by advanced algorithms that completes half-written queries and finds answers from the personal email database in a jiffy. According to IBM, it eliminates the frustration one feels when irrelevant results are returned for a simple search.

IOPES, which was built by IBM research labs in the United States, India and Israel, uses the Unstructured Information Management Architecture to do its job. It works with Lotus Notes and outlook also.

Saving Private Ryan – amazing movie

I have never been affected by a movie the way Saving Private Ryan affected me. That movie really took me out of my seat in the movie theater and practically had me believing I was really in the battle with John Miller. When somebody was dying in that movie, it felt as if you could almost feel their pain. Speilberg did an unbelievable job of putting realism into this movie with the camera-work and everything else. Simply amazing. An all time great.

Terminator 2

This superb sequel surpasses the excellent original in every department and quite simply you won’t see a better action film. Set 15 years after the original Arnie may return as the good Terminator trying to protect John Connor but he’s a redundant piece of scrap metal compared to the T-1000.

The opening hour and the last half hour is absolutely breathtaking with action sequences that still remain unsurpassed. Their’s also a wonderful piece of storytelling 3/4 of the way through where Dyson relises the terrifying consequences of the project he’s neglecting his family for.

The performances are memorable particularly Linda Hamilton’s Sara Connor and simply put, they’ll never make a better action film.

Some of the Tamil channels copying the programs from other channels and implement in there channels. These are all makes the viewers irritating. All TV channels are competing with each other and not to entertain the viewers. When will they stop this cold war? When will they entertain viewers?

Are films, based on sports, Bollywood’s new success formula? So far, there have been the 2007 mega-hit “Chak-De” based on women’s hockey, “Ta Ra Rum Pum” on motor sports and “Apne” which is about boxing.

This year, the Hindi film industry steered clear of cricket, the most popular game in the country. The latest film in the sports genre, is “Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal” on football. The UTV-produced, Vivek Agnihotri directed “Goal” is about a football team, compromising South Asians who live in the Southhall area of London.

They find themselves in a must-win situation in a major English league tournament, if they have to save their club. John Abraham and Arshad Warsi play the role of footballers, Bipasha Basu is John’s lover and Bomman Irani is the coach.

John, Arshad and the others trained for weeks under football choreographer Andy Anash, who has worked with greats such as David Beckham, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho for television commercials. Pritam’s music is already a rage with chartbuster numbers such as “Ishq Ka Kalma”. The film carries positive reports.
